Jay Kaplan (born 1973 in Port Washington NY) graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1995 with a BA in English. He moved to New York City and spent the next two years as a sculptor for Jeff Koons working on the series “Celebration.” In 1999, Kaplan received an MFA in sculpture from Pratt institute in Brooklyn. He worked as a freelance artist on projects for Paul McCarthy and Barbara Kruger. He worked with Murray Moss from 2000-2003 styling store and window displays at the Moss design store in SoHo. Kaplan spent the next six years working as a set designer for Stefan Beckman. He styled sets for fashion editorials and advertising campaigns with photographers Herb Ritts, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Miesel, Peter Lindbergh, Ellen Von Unwerth, and Mario Testino.
Kaplan’s own work in art and design has been described as humorous and irreverant with appealing asthetics, simple detail, and a very calibrated cratsmanship... a generational representative.
Jay currently lives and works in Sudbury, Massachusetts
